Who is Mike Cardy?
I was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia.
I started playing guitar at age 12 and by fifteen was playing bass and guitar in heavy metal cover bands at various venues around Perth.
A few years after my marriage and the arrival of a family I moved away from bands and gigging as other work and family priorities took precedence but continued to play and develop my song writing and playing skills.
During this time, I concentrated on playing acoustic guitar, with a wide range of influences including Jimmy Page, Neil Young and in later years Mark Knopfler.
I started gigging again in the 1990’s through “open mic” nights and at private functions and pubs.
I use a number of guitars when I perform and, through the different sounds, tunings and playing styles, aim to deliver a good range and variety of material.
I released my first album in 2002, "Stories from the City – Live", a compilation of live recordings. My second record, "smiling on the inside", was released in August 2005.
"Frank Conversations" - the second studio album - was released in.
"Living In The Rough" - released in 2023 - is an album of stories about people and places. It is again a variety of styles - with reggae, blues, folk and pop influences.
“Voices” has been a long-term project and that has finally come to fruition. Unlike earlier records, I have only a minor singing role and the 18 tracks tell a story of life, family and the changes they bring.
